According to a new study, even a mild case of COVID-19 can have detrimental effects on your brain.

Researchers discovered that people with COVID-19 had more grey matter loss and anomalies in their brain tissue than people who didn't have COVID-19, according to a new study published Monday in the journal Nature.

Many of the changes were in the brain area connected with smell, and researchers noted a modest decline in the overall volume of the brain.

According to the study, humans lose a modest bit of brain tissue each year as they age—approximately 0.2-0.3 percent of grey matter.

There is no indication in the study that a COVID-19 immunization would reduce the probability of such changes.

In the study review, those who had been infected with COVID-19 lost an additional 0.2-2 percent of tissue compared to those who had not been infected.

Infected people's brain volume decreased by 0.3 percent more than individuals who did not have the condition.

These brain-related impairments occurred more quickly in the study's older individuals.

There is no indication in the study that a COVID-19 immunization would reduce the probability of such changes.
